Rory Sutherland’s TED talk on advertising was really inspiring. He started me thinking about advertising simply as a way add value. Instead of the negative connotations that advertising usually has, he talks about ways it can bring about positive societal change. I was a little disappointed when I looked at Ogilvy Group’s work (where he is the Executive Creative Director). In his defense, this is an huge company. But more importantly what he says on his blog and in this video is great. He, and my other favorite, Tibor Kalman, really redefine advertising in a positive light. Together they embrace advertising’s power to 1. Educate 2. Change norms by adding value. Hope you’re inspired too!
